ANNUAL WINTERFAIR TOY DRIVE BENEFITS CHILDREN OF THE GREATER HARTFORD AREA

"Tons of Toy" drive in Hartford

This is the season, and although it may still feel a little bit like last year, different organizations across the state are making their best efforts to bring joy to children for Christmas.

 

On Thursday, Winterfair, HYPE, and Hanging Hills Brewing Company team up to hold the annual "Tons of Toy" drive to make the children of the Greater Hartford YMCA merry.  

 

"We are collecting toys for families in need in the Hartford community, and then we'll distribute them among the YMCA branches," said HYPE executive director Mia Sinatro.

This year hundreds of toys were collected to bring happiness to the children of the area. Last year through combined efforts from sponsors and donations, the toy drive was able to collect 2,170 presents,  proving that every year it keeps getting better.

The event took place at 88 Pratt Street, where thousands of toys for children 0 to 14 were collected, wrapped, and ready to be distributed. The most popular toys were Marvel figures, Barbie dolls, Legos, and gift cards.

Despite not having the usual Christmas party, Sinatro said the event has the intention to bring joy to children in need. 

 

"Other years, we had a big party, with Santa Claus, music, photo booths, and families enjoying; but we can continue being careful due to COVID, so we decided to do the event still but differently. " 

 

During the event, the organizers awarded the first 30 people who brought their gift in person by giving them a free drink, courtesy of Hanging Hills Brewing Co.

"This is great. You come, give, and receive a nice compliment," said a group of donors.

Winterfair will continue to spread the holiday joy highlighting local small businesses throughout December. The next events will take place on Friday with the Designer Expo and Winter Garden at 88 Pratt Street, followed by a press conference to announce the First Night Hartford details.
