CONNECTICUT'S LOCAL ARTISTS GIVE YOU IDEAS TO CELEBRATE NEW YEAR'S SAFELY

HARTFORD, CT.- The countdown to New Year has begun and although some places have canceled gatherings due to COVID-19 OMICRON spiking up, people in Connecticut have come up with creative ideas to turn the tunes up to receive 2022.

You don’t have to drive to New York City or pay high prices to go into a club before midnight hits or spend hundreds on fashionista apparel to look fabulous on New Year’s Eve. Three Connecticut creative participants of the Winterfair Hartford are giving you options to party like a rock star so that you can open 2022 safely and with positive vibes.

Ravi Ajodhi - Hip Hop performer

Ravi Ajodhi

Ravi was born in Hartford and raised in Manchester. He has lived there for over 15 years. He went to college to study business management, but later, he dropped out because he was "investing the same amount of money going to school than starting his businesses."

He started, Ulterior Motive, about two years ago. His company wants to help others be creative and independent thinkers. The logo is the atom because it is the building block of all life. "I use it as a symbol of myself. I'm just a part of something bigger.

He started his music career in December 2017, after a pretty serious breakup. His songs have a hip-hop rhythm, but he says that "it's not definable in one sense, per se. It's a new genre. Music to me is like a capturing the energy of the moment, so it changes every time I step in the booth".

Ravi had performance in SoHo, New York, then in Connecticut multiple times. He is currently planning to host his concert next year.

New Year's message

“For the people, trust in yourself and you can achieve great things. Don't shy away from your life when it gets hard”.

Lashell Gibbs - Fashionista

Lashell Gibbs

Born and raised in Hartford, Lashell is a fashion designer. She started a vintage clothing and consignment store called "How Bazaar" in Hartford about five years ago. To go outside the box, she started doing art exhibitions and events at her store before moving outstate.

Now, she is opening her path through the movie industry in Atlanta, Georgia, where she worked as a costume designer for Black Panther 2 movie.

"When I heard about the Winterfair, I was happy to be invited to be part of the event. I came back to Hartford because it's the holidays, and it was a good excuse to be close to my family".

Her adventurous mentality has taken her to faraway places such as Peru, where she helped build homes for families in need.

"Yes, it's called an Ultimate Workout, and I did two programs with them.  We built houses and had professionals assisting us.  I felt like I was a part of a family; I never felt excluded. Peruvians openness, friendship, kindness, and generosity were great. They even cooked for us."

Her next plans as a fashionista are as a costume designer for an independent film that will start filming in March 2022.

New Year's message:

“Just enjoy the small things. I think for the holidays we get roped up in like presents and big stuff, but I think the holidays and now with COVID, we have to realize that family and friends are really important. So, if you haven't talked to someone talk to them, call them up.”

Vice Nu Royal - Artist

Vice Nur Royal

Vice was born in New Jersey,  grew up in New York, and came to Connecticut to study at UCONN and became a graduate in 2019.  He says his life signature is "New Jersey made me, New York raised me, Connecticut pays me." He started "Tristate My Estate," a business that sells urban apparel.

"I have a 3D animation of me wearing the merchandise, and you know that is where I get a lot of inspiration from what I do and where I would like to go."

Besides being an entrepreneur, Vice is also a musician. He started developing his music career in 2015 by recording and mixing songs. Then he started his music on Garage Band on his laptop, and one day he grabbed a microphone and turned his college dorm into a music studio.

"In the old days, the biggest stars that we would hear about had record labels behind them, but we would also hear the horror stories about how recording labels was taking 90% of the money, and they would only make 10%. Now with social media, we can take matters into our own hands and be in full control of our careers and creativity"

Vice's long term goal is to create a video game with his character for everybody to play"

New Year's message

"Always reward yourself for the big win, small wins, and everything in between.  Never feel shame about clapping for yourself as loud as you can even if no one else is doing that because if you can keep your cup full, it's easy to pour into the cups of others and support other people."
