FIRST NIGHT HARTFORD NEW YEAR'S EVE CELEBRATION IS BACK AND IN PERSON

First Night Hartford 2022 press conference

With just three weeks to go, First Night Hartford is set to make its in-person return, kicking off 2022 with a celebration filled with positive energy and festive spirit.

At a press conference held on Friday at 88 Pratt Street, Jeffrey Devereux, the Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner partner, announced the highly anticipated holiday event, sharing that a fantastic program has been planned for the evening.

"We're thrilled to have so many wonderful partners on board, including the Hartford Library, the Old State House, and local churches, all helping to bring this night to life," Devereux said. "We can't wait to celebrate with you all!"

Last year, the annual event was unable to welcome in-person attendees due to the Coronavirus pandemic, so First Night adapted by hosting virtual gatherings following the global shift to online events.

This year, however, the celebration is back in full swing, with two spectacular fireworks displays to ring in the new year—one at 6 p.m. and another at midnight—both in Bushnell Park, where people of all ages can come together to enjoy the festivities.

Erik Hansen- Hartford Wolf Pack

Community partners, including Erik Hansen, Vice President of Business Operations for the Wolf Pack, have expressed excitement about being part of this year’s beloved annual event.

"We're thrilled to have the game start at 3 p.m. this year," Hansen said. "That way, the game will wrap up just in time for the fireworks, giving fans the perfect opportunity to enjoy both the game and the celebration."

State Troubadour Nikita Waller

State Troubadour Nikita Waller, whose voice has been a staple of many holiday celebrations over the years, brought an infectious energy to the press conference.

"It's Christmas time in Hartford, isn't it?" Waller exclaimed. "So, bring that same energy to First Night 2022! And don't forget to bring your kids—they'll have a blast too!"

The event, organized by Winterfair and its community partners, kicks off on Friday, December 31, at 2 p.m. with over 30 performances representing diverse cultural backgrounds. For those who can’t attend in person, the celebration will be live-streamed on Facebook and HPATV. The festivities will also feature food, artisan vendor booths, and activities at 12 different venues across Downtown Hartford.

New Wave artist Chad Browne-Springer

East Hartford artist Chad Browne-Springer added a fresh vibe to the event, mixing new wave beats that energized the atmosphere.

"I’ve been performing for years, and when I was asked to participate, I was happy to accept," Browne-Springer said. "It’s going to be a great time."

Organizers emphasized that COVID-19 safety protocols will remain in place to ensure the wellbeing of all attendees.

"Come out, enjoy the festivities, connect with others, and support local businesses and artists," urged Devereux. "Most importantly, have a great time!"
